BREAKING! Disney Beta Testing Social Distancing Detectors!

After some weeks of a slow re-opening, my top spies inside the wonderful of Disney Imagineering have whispered in my ear that despite all the hullabaloo and foot stompin’ you may see in the esteemed Disney Facebook groups galore, compliance with social distancing and face masks inside the parks is really not up to that platinum Disney standard. Knowing this well in advance, the brilliant minds in Disney Imagineering have been working on next level tech to deal with the issue. I’m told this is Jetson’s style, folks, in the form of a social distancing detector.

Right now testing is happening with an ankle type monitor each guest would wear. Those in the same party would be programmed to allow close contact. The monitors would also be linked to guests all new My Disney +/- Bands. Each time a guest/group properly social distances in lines, walking through the parks, standing and eating, etc. they get a “+.” Each time they are too close to other guests or cast members, they get a “-.”

Disney has had meetings with both Samsung and Apple to redesign the Magic Band so it can fully integrate both systems into one band. Eliminating the need to wear both ankle and wrist bands.  What this sounds to me is, masks and social distancing is NOT temporary. This is a permanent dealio at least in the World of Disney.

Phase II of the social distancing detectors will add in a phaser that will give a light electrical jolt to scooter, wheelchair and stroller users to come near others and remind them to slow down or STOP!  Several Disney executives have also proposed that if annual passholders consistently end the day in the negative that they have their pass suspended for a set amount of time sort of on a sliding punishment scale. I will keep you updated if I hear more on that.

As always… when I know more you will too.
